The Openmind Winter School is a new regional initiative aimed at fostering the next generation of reinforcement learning researchers and practitioners. This inaugural event, co-organized by Openmind Research Institute, UTAR, Universiti Malaya (UM), and AI Malaysia, with support from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and AI Singapore, will feature lectures, mentoring, and discussions led by top experts — including interactive online sessions with Prof. Richard Sutton.
Instructive Track
Enables understanding of RL research through:
Foundations of reinforcement learning
Key algorithms and concepts
Practical exercises and project sessions

Advances understanding of the research frontier with:
Deep dives into recent RL research papers
Discussions of open research problems
Mentorship sessions with senior researchers
Participants
We expect about 50 participants from across the ASEAN region, including graduate students, exceptional undergraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career faculty members, and industry researchers.
While the program welcomes participants from the ASEAN region, exceptional applicants from other parts of the world may also be considered.
Important: A registration fee of ~400 USD is due after admission is granted.
